How do you become Peter Brötzmann ? How do you become what you are: a painter, a musician, an absolute artist? Europe was nothing but a ruin and shame possessed the heart of the young Germans. They needed to invent, scream, regain a lost brotherhood. Overcome this silence! That’s how some young German, British, Dutch, Belgian… musicians made Europe exist long before Maastrich and have kept on cherishing, imperturbably, their freedom! They are no longer twenty-year-olds, but others have followed. They set themselves one constraint: reinvent everything every time.  A way to take the very instant into account, to let the unexpected in, to match to the world.

Jost Gebers

He is behind Free Music Production that invented indelibly almost 40 years of improvised jazz in Europe. In parallel with his editing work, he organised numerous concerts in Berlin, Germany.

Evan Parker

This British saxophone player was a member of the Peter Brötzmann Octet in 1968. Still very active on the international scene of improvised music, he fights in his own way for liberty.

Fred Van Hove

The pianist said in 1973 that he was less influenced by Cecil Taylor than by Antwerp’s bells. Brötzmann’s fellow musician during the 60s and 70s, he is one of the most ardent advocate of free improvisation.

Han Bennink

Strong and spectacular drummer, he played during a long time in a duo with Brötzmann and a trio with Fred Van Hove. Since his early days with the saxophone player, he keeps an almost intact memory of the Machine Gun recording session in 1968…
