These poems focus on Guyanese-Canadians, no longer a new immi-grant group, but a cultural group that has integrated into the Canadian mainstream. The poems address the settlement of seniors and their grandchildren in their new Canadian home. For the seniors and for the wider Canadian and Caribbean audience, the author re-entered the Guyanese culture back home to remind myself and my readers and listeners of both our new and old homes. The section “For the Young”” is suitable for all young Canadians who enjoy listening and reading poetry that talks about the emergence of a Canadian culture that al-ways keeps renewing itself.

Peter Jailall, a teacher, storyteller, and poet, was born in Guyana in 1944. He has read his poetry in schools, libraries, and universities across Canada and in the Caribbean. An avid supporter of human rights and social justice, he expresses his compassion and passion for human values through poetry and stories. A graduate from the University of Toronto (B.Ed, M.A.), Peter conducts poetry and literacy workshops in schools. He adapts his approach to teaching and learning to curriculum themes. After a reading, students participate in follow up activities which may include writing, drama and choral reading. He assists students in making and sharing their own texts after each presentation. He currently teaches with the Peel Board of Education in Mississauga, Ontario, and writes a regular column, “Jottings,” in the Peel Educator’s Association newspaper, The Beacon.
